Nike Design gives Bridgend a facelift

Autumn/ Winter 2009

Nike Design has been involved for the past two years in a project to give a facelift to the conservation area in the centre of Bridgend. The scheme, called the Town Heritage Initiative, is grant funded and has resulted in many buildings within the area being restored to their former glory and improved the street scene in the centre of town.

The rear of some of these buildings have been given a new prominence with the opening of a new river walk, again promoted by Bridgend Council with grants. The novel scheme entails a lightweight structure cantilevered off the river flood defence wall.

Chris Skilton, Operations Director at Nike Design said: “It is interesting to watch the transformation that is taking place with tatty back yards turning into beer gardens and restaurant terraces, all adding to the general upgrading of the town’s facilities.”
